Spam is a common term used to describe unwanted electronic communications (“Junk mail”). The most common medium of spam is email, however it can also come in other forms, such as text messages, faxes, social networking posts, and instant messages (this is sometimes known as spim). Spam emails are part of bigger problems such as Identity theft and or other scams.
Although spam can be very annoying, it can't harm your computer so long as you don’t open it. The difficulty comes when deciding if a message is spam or a genuine communication.
